The original intent was to capture the figure with the hoola-hoop. It was just luck that the light changed and the opposing arrows came up. Serendipity gave a whole new dimension to the photo and definitely made it more fun!

It was Oxana’s idea to shoot a silhouette against the stained glass window. As soon as I saw that soft pink glow from the line that led straight to her face, I knew this was going to be a keeper.

I metered on her cheek bone and that turned out to be a good setting for the glass too. All in all, it was a magical shot that captured the warmth and beauty of an unforgettable day. Thanks, Oxana! :-)

This shot was taken on the Hualapai Reservation, near the Grand Canyon Skywalk. Although it looks dramatic, it does not begin to capture the beauty and grandeur of the Arizona desert.

The landscape is so captivating that I almost gave up on trying to photograph it. Nothing could re-create the awe-inspiring magic that happens when Mother Nature takes up her brush.

The rain won, but not before I took a few shots at Castello di Amorosa. The grey day lent itself to black & white images. I wish I would have had more time and a water-proof housing.

Shooting Plants

I did not intend to photograph plants today but I found myself at the U.C. Berkeley Botanical Gardens this morning and I couldn’t help myself. The light was right and it was a place that I hadn’t explored before.

The photo above is one of the more interesting shots. The purple things (I believe they’re stamen) are just emerging from a bud. Later on, they’ll be part of a beautiful purple flower (see it in the Photo section). In this shot, I tried to capture that in-between stage that features a contrast of the deeper purple against the bright red.

As with most of my flower shots, I can’t take any credit for this one. Mother Nature did all the work. I just snapped the shutter and cropped the result, but I still love it.
